Designer Picks: Kitchen Accessories

There are two main mindsets when it comes to kitchen décor - either completely clear countertops or a few key pieces left out. I prefer some key pieces left out as I feel it creates a more comfortable and welcoming environment whereas completely cleared countertops - while very clean, can also feel very sterile. In this post I’m going to share some of my favorite kitchen accessories that you can feel good about leaving out.
I love a pretty cutting board out on the counter - its practical and a beautiful butcher block option also adds some warmth to the hardness of tile and stone. My favorite butcher block style is end grain, and this oversized option would look fantastic on most countertops.
Kitchen towels are a necessary item to have for any chef in the kitchen - but if you select ones you love you can feel great about having them out. I love this set, which is available in multiple colors, for its simplicity and also its timelessness.
If you have enough storage space to put away the oil after cooking, I would certainly do that - but if not, instead of leaving it in the original bottle, why not transfer it to a pretty oil bottle like this Rachael Ray one (which also comes in a multitude of colors)? Not only is it prettier than the plastic bottle and will look more intentional (and less like you forgot to clean up) but because it is opaque, it will help your oil last longer since it won’t be exposed to light. I love this one and have it in my own kitchen - and love that its dishwasher safe!
A spoon rest is another practical tool that will keep your counters clean and this one, available in a few different finishes, looks high end and still neutral enough to leave out whether in use of not.
A utensil holder is a must for most kitchens - unless you’ve completed a full renovation (or don’t have many because you aren’t a big cook - which is ok). I love neutral colored options in ceramic like the one we selected here. I love the color blocking on this option - my big tip is to put nicer utensils in it and tuck away the older ones in drawers. I really like wood or high quality silicone options - a matching set to put out on the counter.
A flower vase is always a great addition to any space. You can add fresh blooms or dried eucalyptus branches to add a touch of nature and texture to the space. This vase is unique and fun - and white ceramic goes with everything.
There are hundreds of thousands of kitchen rug and mat options - but don’t assume you have to select something specifically designed for the kitchen to use in yours! Look for one with made from polypropylene which is the easiest option to keep clean (jute, sisal and wool are other good options) and a flat weave (or low pile). This option is an anti-fatigue mat that is designed for the kitchen and is a great option for anyone who cooks a lot (and so in standing in the kitchen for long periods). I love this one because unlike most anti-fatigue mats, its actually an attractive option to have on display.
