One Room Challenge Spring 2022 Week 5 - The Laundry Room

I feel like I accomplished so much this week - and also like I have so much left to do! I’m not 100% sure it will all get done, but I’m going to try… I feel like its starting to move in the right direction though.

This week I patched the drywall and then painted in the main space. On the stairs, I sanded, caulked, primed, and then painted - but I need another coat to really be done with this part. I left the middle unpainted because it will be covered by a runner. The runner I ordered should be here tomorrow… which conveniently is when I am headed out of town for a fun weekend getaway with some friends.

My poor dog is not a fan of the carpet-less stairs and has to be convinced to go down them daily (which is a problem because to get to her doggie zipline, you have to go downstairs.)

I ended changing one of the paint colors from my original selection, which I knew was a possibility when I started the project.

Something I always talk about with my clients is how lighting can really alter a paint color, so it’s important to select it in the actual space. I knew that the addition of another light (and changing the color temperature) could drastically alter the way the colors I selected looked in the space (another reason I suggest picking paint last), and sure enough, it did. The Urbane Bronze color looked amazing with the old light fixture, but with the new, brighter lights it really fought with the color of the appliances and appeared more muddy than rich. So, instead, I selected Iron Ore, which is a soft black shade and works amazingly well with Alabaster (the wall color selection).

I invested in a paint sprayer to paint the cabinet and IKEA project - but I’m a little nervous about using it (which is probably why I haven’t completed those projects yet). It should hopefully help them go faster and allow me to achieve a smoother finish which is the goal.

Here is the rough schedule for the next three weeks:

Week 6 - Finish stairs (second coat of paint, install runner), paint cabinet, stain shelves, paint & install trim, IKEA project

Week 7 - Install Cabinet, Shelves, finish IKEA project, sand/paint stair rail

Week 8 - Refinish/seal floors, install IKEA cabinet, style space

Hopefully I can fit it all in! If you want to check out the other ORC projects (which you should), visit the ORC blog here.
