One Room Challenge Spring 2022 Week 7 - The Laundry Room
I accomplished a lot this week, but unfortunately couldn’t find the time to write about it between client appointments, networking events, business matters, and all of the kid’s sports activities, so that’s why this is a bit delayed. I’m planning on getting back on track this week though with the final reveal to happen next Wednesday!
I am very happy to report that I was able to get the stair runner installed this week, and I am just loving how it turned out. It took the basement stairs from being an old/kinda creepy entry to the depths of the basement, to bright and updated. I am still planning on painting the walls and refinishing the handrail, but honestly I’m not sure that will happen before the challenge ends. I am considering completing a more step by step guide in the future, but there are tons of great tutorials from a lot of DIY bloggers you could follow (here is a great one from Ashley at Cherished Bliss).
I painted the stairs in the same color as the rest of the trim (Pure White by Behr) and then used an indoor/outdoor runner from Lowe’s in black/beige herringbone pattern. This dark color combined with the material will help resist staining and hold up to the wear and tear that these stairs will deal with. I also added a carpet pad under the rug, which not only makes the stairs softer underfoot, but will also make the rug more durable as well.
I also installed the cabinet above the dryer this week (with help from my husband) and the shelves next to the dryer/above the washer. Although we went from two cabinets to one, the new cabinet is significantly wider (36” instead of 24”) and with the shelves, we now have a ton more storage than we did before. The color of the cabinet is the the same as the shoe storage piece, and the shelves are stained the same color as the top, which creates great repetition in the space.
I also love to use practical items for décor pieces (when it makes sense), so I grabbed these glass containers and filled them with wool dryer balls and clothespins. I still have some styling to do, but that will come during final touches.
On the to do list for this week is to put up the trim around the doors, touch up any paint that is needed, install handles on the cabinet, and the floor! It will be a bit of a rush, but I think I can get it done!
