Shop the Look: Bachelor Living Room

I feel like I need to add an additional disclaimer to this board - this is a grown up bachelor living room - not a broke, recent grad who is still eating Ramen multiple times a week bachelor living room. I feel like I need to add this because my husband says “its too nice to be a bachelor pad.” (Insert side eye/eye roll here.) I should also note that when we got married at 24, he was living in Japan and I showed up to a living room that had two UGLY recliners, a cheap TV stand, and his military school trunk acting as the coffee table. The TV was really nice though, and apparently that’s all that matters. However, I think that as we grow up, we start to appreciate what having a nice home to invite people over to can do for our self-confidence and enjoyment of our space - and this is true no matter how you identify or your relationship status. I have described this as a Bachelor Living Room because that is who I imagined the client to be as I was putting together the board, but if you love everything about it and that description doesn’t fit you - don’t feel like you can’t enjoy it. Don’t let my title put you in a box. Now, onto the space!
I wanted to do something grown up and fun for this space, while still keeping it fresh and a little edgy. The sofa was the starting point for this design and my favorite part is that it is a reclining sofa (and its not ugly!). Normally, I can’t stand reclining sofas as they just aren’t that pretty… if you have them in your house and love them, sorry, but I stand by my assessment. This one looks like a regular sofa but has a motorized foot rest.
The leather from the two armchairs complements the blue of the couch while adding a new/edgier silhouette to the room. I also love how leather immediately adds another texture and layer to a space.
The TV stand is 76” wide, plenty big enough for an extra large TV (my husband’s biggest concern) and the dark wood ties in nicely with the coffee table (a sculptural piece in its own right) and the legs of the sofa.
The rug pulls the colors of the room together while adding some additional pops of red and yellow. Finally, the roman blinds on the windows add additional texture and help finish off the space. The Pulp Fiction canvas adds a funky element to the space and keeps it from feeling too formal and stiff. In my opinion, you can make anything art as long as the scale is right. A dinky 2’x3’ poster would look too much like a dorm room poster, but an oversized 4’x5’ piece elevates it and makes it the perfect focal point for behind the sofa.
